Antique printed color map of part of the Adirondacks in new York, by Verplanck Colvin, 1873. Verplanck Colvin (1847 €“1920) was a lawyer, author, illustrator and topographical engineer whose understanding and appreciation for the environment of the Adirondack Mountains led to the creation of New York’s Forest Preserve and the Adirondack Park. This map shows the area of Lows Lake before it was dammed in 1903 and 1907, flooding the area around Mud Lake and changing the topography significantly. With an illustration of a survey party in the upper left. Shows topography, camps, altitudes. Very good antique condition with folds as issued and some minor signs of age including some slight wrinkling of the antique paper and some spots. Meaures approx. 18 x 23 inches to the neatline.
